Orchids & Roses - CALAT Smitham
Learners at CALAT (Croydon Adult Learners and Training) College had a choice of making roses or Cattleya Orchids, one student made a Cymbidium orchid also. Students were shown how to make wired flowers and colour them with dusting powder. The more experienced learners made tiered decorative cakes, whilst the new students made and decorated single tier cakes.

At CALAT South Norwood Centre students learnt how to cover their cakes in fondant, creating bows, swags and roses. They worked with a variety of mediums including Sugarpaste, 50/50 (pastillage) and flower paste. They also learned how to decoratively crimp their cakes as well as pipe lettering and here are some of the results below.
