Fun & Flowers
A beautiful 50th birthday cake as made by Irene a former SCOLA student, she says;
"Here is the two tier 50th birthday cake I made for my friend. Base is fruit and top is sponge. He collects beavers so I made these two out of sugar paste and had them holding the 50. We had to wear a facinator to the party so I incorporated the feathers into the decoration to match the theme of the party."
Naheed has been perfecting the rose techniques that she made in class and it looks so real or did she pick it from her garden? I really can't tell....
These cakes are an excellent effort and all credit to you both, well done.

Skateboard Cake
A rather impressive skateboard cake as created by Irene. Irene kindly tells us how she made it and says;
Making the cake.Fantastic effort and well done - it's so much like the picture on the right hand side.
I used an oblong and round cake. Cut the round cake in half and placed it at the ends of the oblong. I then cut a small piece from each side of the oblong to give the indented look. The cake is sponge so I first covered it with buttercream then fondant. My nephew wanted it to be a replica of his own skateboard so I used a template of the design on his skateboard to cut the monsters out the wheels are also fondant and I used a wooden stick covered in foil for the wheel bar.

Bike Birthday Cake
Nicki Pickett has sent us this fabulous cake of a motorbike she has pieced together with icing. She printed a picture from the internet for inspiration and made her own template to create it. Doesn't it look great. Her brother certainly loved it!

The Prince of Whales Cake
Jen Dennel (aka JD) made this adorably cute whale cake she says;
The cake was for my boss's grandson who is called Angus. They are having a christening party in Cornwall hence the beachy theme. The cake is a Dundee fruit cake - I didn't go with the darker heavier fruit cake because not everyone likes it and as the christening isn't until Sunday a sponge wouldn't have been fresh enough by then. I'm pleased with how its turned out and my boss is very pleased with it.
I'm hoping you will be impressed when i tell you that the piping of the name was done freehand and yes i did lift the nozzle well up off the cake - when I'm piping all I hear in my ear is you saying higher higher!!!!!
Colette says...
Of course I am impressed with the icing - FABULOUS!!!...
Square Buttercream Cake
Naheed's pretty square buttercream 11th birthday cake piped in pink and blue with a star nozzle, coupled with additional matching flower blossom detail at the base of the board.

Here are some photo's of some angry birds cupcakes that I made for my other step-daughter. She turned 15 last week and is a huge fan of angry birds - plays it non-stop - so i thought i would surprise her!. The cupcakes are st clements - orange flavoured sponge with a lemon buttercream icing. And the angry birds were made using different coloured fondants.Some very cute Angry Birds (extremely addictive like the flavour of these cupcakes).
Brilliant Jen!

Kate's Cutesy Cake
Please find attached a picture of my 3 tier cake that I made for my friend's Mum's 60th last weekend. It was all plain sponge, with dowels and boards to keep it upright! The top tier was a bit bumpy but this was due to having a little too much buttercream underneath, and also some trapped air. The decoration was done using a Bow cutter kit. The middle tear was just kept simple with 60's and the bottom had much more colour and lots of flowers (requested by my friend!) I struggled to find a lilac ribbon that matched exactly, so decided to make a feature of it and use two ribbons around each tier, using the silver to break up the lilacs and purples!
The cake was a great success, and everyone loved it, and also all the other decorations that I did for the party – table decorations, centre pieces, table plan, place cards etc!! The event planner in me enjoyed every minute!!
The next cake I've been asked to do is a simple one tier cake, but with a 'money' theme! Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

Golf Themed Cake
Just thought I would share a photo of a 40th Golf themed birthday cake I made recently. Fondant icing created the green, blue chocolate for the water, biscuit crumbs for the bunker and coconut dyed with green food colouring for the grass. The golf all is made from fondant and the flag is made from a cocktail stick with a paper flag. I've used a black writing pen around the hole to make it look deep!
A little figure of a golfer finishes the cake and a 40th candle too.

Little House on the Prairie
Take a look at this Little House on The Prairie Themed cake made by Nicki. The cake board has been covered in shredded coconut (dyed with green foodcolouring) and some biscuit crumbs make up the path. The house is made entirely of cake and has a wood effect grain on the fondant icing it is covered with. Little rolled up pieces of fondant make the log pile and a little fondant water barrel finishes the look. All the animals are childrens toys. Cute huh !

Launderette Cake Topper
A laundry themed topper for a birthday cake as sent in by Naheed for an aunt that owns what looks like a very busy laundromat. Complete with washing machine, detergents and dirty washing! A very imaginative (and funny) piece made out of sugar paste (fondant). Well done!
