Beautiful Blossom Cake

'Thank you...' cake with Blossoms and flowers.
Nothing says 'Thank you' better than a yummy cake.

This wonderful helping was submitted by Steve, a student who attends the evening classes at CALAT, the cake itself was made for a family friend.  The upward facing blossom flowers and slightly curved petals were achieved by placing each individual cut out flower into formers. The letters have been piped in white and then over piped in lilac, also each blossom has a white centre (nice attention to detail).  Altogether a job well done!!!

Yummy Angry Birds Cupcakes

Angry Bird Cupcakes
Submitted by Jen Dennel, she says;
Here are some photo's of some angry birds cupcakes that I made for my other step-daughter. She turned 15 last week and is a huge fan of angry birds - plays it non-stop - so i thought i would surprise her!. The cupcakes are st clements - orange flavoured sponge with a lemon buttercream icing. And the angry birds were made using different coloured fondants.
Some very cute Angry Birds (extremely addictive like the flavour of these cupcakes).

Brilliant Jen!

Runout (Flooding) Royal Icing Class Projects

Here are the class Run-Out/Flooding Royal Icing Techniques as performed by SCOLA and CALAT students and myself, there are beautiful colour schemes, shell and barrel style piping/overpiping and free-hand writing.  This technique allows you to replicate popular characters on Royal Icing or fondant cakes, without necessarily having the ability to be an artist, this is helpful when you are making children's birthday cakes.  I think that ALL THESE CAKES ARE FABULOUS FOR A FIRST ATTEMPT!  So well done guys and here we go....!!!  Pssst... To take a closer look at the piping styles just click on the individual pictures!

Naheed's offering of Glam, Games and Magical Cakes

Naheed is currently undertaking the  Cake Decorating course at CALAT and since embarking on the course has received countless orders of cakes, her cakes do not fail to disappoint as they are always (like her) very bold.  Well done Naheed!

Engagement Ring Cake takes centre stage in this joyous occasion

A brilliant effort of an Xbox game cake

A great cake for an avid Harry Potter fan, complete with Snitch, glasses, wand , hat and other items

Kate's Cutesy Cake

Please find attached a picture of my 3 tier cake that I made for my friend's Mum's 60th last weekend. It was all plain sponge, with dowels and boards to keep it upright! The top tier was a bit bumpy but this was due to having a little too much buttercream underneath, and also some trapped air. The decoration was done using a Bow cutter kit.  The middle tear was just kept simple with 60's and the bottom had much more colour and lots of flowers (requested by my friend!) I struggled to find a lilac ribbon that matched exactly, so decided to make a feature of it and use two ribbons around each tier, using the silver to break up the lilacs and purples!

The cake was a great success, and everyone loved it, and also all the other decorations that I did for the party – table decorations, centre pieces, table plan, place cards etc!! The event planner in me enjoyed every minute!!

The next cake I've been asked to do is a simple one tier cake, but with a 'money' theme! Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

Gorgeous cake, with fantastic Bow detail.  Am Lovin' It!!!!

Golf Themed Cake

Just thought I would share a photo of a 40th Golf themed birthday cake I made recently. Fondant icing created the green, blue chocolate for the water, biscuit crumbs for the bunker and coconut dyed with green food colouring for the grass.  The golf all is made from fondant and the flag is made from a cocktail stick with a paper flag. I've used a black writing  pen around the hole to make it look deep!

A little figure of a golfer finishes the cake and a 40th candle too.

Little House on the Prairie

Take a look at this Little House on The Prairie Themed cake made by Nicki. The cake board has been covered in shredded coconut (dyed with green foodcolouring) and some biscuit crumbs make up the path. The house is made entirely of cake and has a wood effect grain on the fondant icing it is covered with.  Little rolled up pieces of fondant make the log pile and a little fondant water barrel finishes the look.  All the animals are childrens toys.  Cute huh !

Launderette Cake Topper

A laundry themed topper for a birthday cake as sent in by Naheed for an aunt that owns what looks like a very busy  laundromat. Complete with washing machine, detergents and dirty washing! A very imaginative (and funny) piece made out of sugar paste (fondant).  Well done!
