St George's Day Cupcakes

Thought I would share a photo of my St George's Day themed cupcakes today! Red cross, Flowers, Sprinkles and Dragons modelled from fondant.  I made over 30 of these - both red velvet and vanilla flavoured with a little jam inside the vanilla ones for a nice extra treat!

Jimmy Choo Shoes

If you can't buy the real thing then bake it!!!! A lovely effort by Steve, a student at CALAT, this was his personal project and apart from diamonds, I would settle as this being a girl's best friend.

24/7 Cupcake ATM or ACM Machine - My New Bank

I just had to share this article!  Only in the States can you get an ATM machine for cupcakes!!! Bring it on!

Sprinkles in Beverly Hills came up with the amazing idea of a 24 hour cupcake ATM. (Come on Seattle…. jump on this bandwagon!)  The ACM (that’s Automated Cupcake Machine) debuted to such extreme HEAVY traffic, it couldn’t handle it and actually broke!

The machine has 600 cupcakes … but it was receiving over 1,000 sales a day!

(Click on the link above to see how the ACM works).

Even though the machine is 24 hours, more people were staying in line for the ACM than actually go inside and order their treats in person. When the ACM broke, an engineer was quickly brought in to get it back up and running in two hours.  Now, Sprinkles has an employee watch over the machine to make sure nothing bad happens.

Yumna's Rose Cake

Yumna a student at SCOLA started her hand made rose cake and brought in the finished article a week later and this is the rather glamorous effect - I am partial to a bit of sparkle!!! Great Cake.
I love the scroll effect pattern.

Class - Sugar Roses, Bunnies & Bears

In class at SCOLA students made their own cakes and decorated them with fondant and made sugar roses by hand as demonstrated in the class, most had never made roses before and the result was impressive to say the least. Below are the examples of these mouth-watering cakes.

At CALAT the students made Easter themed cutesy animals including bunnies and bears.  These were made out of sugarpaste and of course they did me proud!

Skateboard Cake

A rather impressive skateboard cake as created by Irene. Irene kindly tells us how she made it and says;

Making the cake.
I used an oblong and round cake. Cut the round cake in half and placed it at the ends of the oblong. I then cut a small piece from each side of the oblong to give the indented look. The cake is sponge so I first covered it with buttercream then fondant. My nephew wanted it to be a replica of his own skateboard so I used a template of the design on his skateboard to cut the monsters out  the wheels are also fondant and I used a wooden stick covered in foil for the wheel bar.
Fantastic effort and well done - it's so much like the picture on the right hand side.

Nan's 75th Birthday Cake

Rosie made this cake utilising the techniques she learned at CALAT. She decorated the 75th birthday cake with delicate piped royal icing roses and the numbers appear to be made with run-out icing, a technically sound effort. The result is impressive - Well done!!

Traditional Mehndi and Bridal Cakes

These cake pictures have come in all the way from South Africa.  Naheed, a student at both CALAT and SCOLA is there presently and was given the task of making a Mehndi and bride and groom cakes.
